At Smile Galleria, We understand how messy & uncomfortable it can be to be stuffed with gooey stuff in someone's mouth. However, to benefit our patients with the new dental impressions technology & avoid such discomfort, we have incorporated this innovative technology in our practice. However, our office uses digital impressions, specifically Runyes 3DS intra-oral Scanner, we capture digital impressions that assure an accurate fitting of the final restoration.
Bite the cotton or gauze firmly over the extracted site for 30-45 minutes.
Do not rinse or spit for 24 hours after surgery.
Keep your fingers and tongue away from the socket or surgical area.
Use ice packs on the surgical area (side of face) for first 24 - 48 hours; apply ice 20 minutes on and 10 minutes off.
For mild discomfort and severe pain, use the medication prescribed to you.
Drink plenty of fluids. ( Do not use a straw - this creates suction in the mouth that could cause complications.)
We suggest that you do not smoke for at least 5 days after surgery.
Avoid strenuous activity and do not exercise for at least 3-4 days after surgery. After that, be careful: your regular caloric and fluid intake have been reduced, so you may get light-headed, dizzy, or weak.
After the first-operative day, use a warm salt water rinse or prescribed antiseptic mouth wash for gargle following meals for the first week to flush out particles of food and debris that may lodge in the surgical area.
Your diet should consist mainly of soft, easily swallowed food and cool drinks. Avoid anything that might get stuck in your teeth, so no seeds, nut, popcorn or similar foods.
Difficulty in opening your mouth widely and discomfort upon swallowing should be anticipated.
Numbness of the lips and/or tongue on the affected side may be experienced for a variable period of time.
Swelling can be expected. An ice bag can be used to reduce it.
Healing of the surgical site is variable.
Removal of impacted teeth is a surgical procedure. Post-operative problems are not unusual and extra care must be taken to avoid complications.
The removal of impacted wisdom teeth and surgical extraction of teeth is quite different from the extraction of erupted teeth. The following conditions may occur (individual differences), all of which are considered normal:
The surgical area will swell.
Swelling peaks on the second or third post-operative day.
Trismus (stiffness) of the muscles may cause difficulty in opening your mouth for a few days.
You may have a slight earache.
A sore throat may develop.
Your other teeth may ache temporarily. This is referred pain and is a temporary condition.
If the corners of the mouth are stretched out, they may dry and crack. Your lips should be kept moist with cream or ointment.
There will be a space where the tooth was removed. This cavity will gradually fill in with new tissue.
There may be slight elevation of temperature for 24 - 48 hours. If temperature continues, notify us.

First of all we will know why it hurts when wisdom teeth come. Adults have 32 teeth. Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25.
Due to evolution, human jaws get smaller from generation to generation, but the size of teeth has not changed. So now a days human jaws get smaller to accommodate 32 teeth. There is usually only enough space for 28 teeth.
If all the remaining teeth are present and healthy then there is not enough space for the wisdom teeth to grow. If there is enough space in the jaw, it grows easily and stays in a useful position and there is no problem. Sometimes there is a bit of a problem with wisdom teeth, but it is only for a short time, which goes away after the teeth are fully grown.
If there is not enough space in the jaw, the wisdom tooth tries to come out, then it will get trapped behind the front molar, it is called Impacted Wisdom Tooth.
Common Signs & Symptoms
If a small part of the wisdom tooth appears outside the gums and a small part is covered by the gums, a cavity (pocket) is formed between the gums and the teeth, in which trapped food particles are eaten after a while and inoculated into the gums, causing pain in the gums. LASER ASSISTED OPERCULECTOMY
What is Operculectomy?
Operculectomy is the procedure of surgically removing the operculum or flap of gum that partially covers over a tooth. This procedure treats pericoronitis, a condition characterized by pain and inflammation of the operculum.Pericoronitis typically occurs among young adults, especially those whose wisdom tooth is starting to erupt.
Laser Assisted Operculectomy is advised by the dentist when one develops Pericoronitis, which may be acute or chronic.
The most important advantage of soft-tissue lasers over other surgical modalalities is their ability to cut and provide hemostasis efficiently.
Here are some of major benefits associated with laser dentistry:
Procedures performed using soft tissue dental lasers may not require sutures (stitches).
Certain laser dentistry procedures do not require anesthesia.
Less Bleeding :- Laser dentistry minimizes bleeding because the high-energy light beam aids in the clotting (coagulation) of exposed blood vessels, thus inhibiting blood loss.
Less Discomfort
Bacterial infections are minimized because the high-energy beam sterilizes the area being worked on. Less chances of recurrence of infections
Damage to surrounding tissue is minimized.
Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated.
As with any surgery it is important to be prepared to provide support after treatment.
Each patient responds differently to surgery depending on the extent of treatment needed, other contributing issues (e.g. muscle restrictions) and their biological make-up. If there is excessive discomfort, take advised medication or pain relief. However, please avoid Nurofen and Aspirin based medications as they could encourage bleeding of the wound. Swelling may be minimized by the immediate use of ice packs.
Eat Well - The diet will ideally be fresh foods which are nutrient rich and low in refined sugars, to help reduce inflammation. This may help with healing. (please avoid cumin or mustard seeds as they interfere in wound healing site)
Active wound management (stretches and exercises)
Start the stretches while you are still numb immediately after surgery.
The surgery area will begin to form a white/grey/yellow/brown ulcer like appearance (this is the healing tissue). This area must be stretched and exercised regularly. The stretches/exercises must be performed for at least a month.
For the first 21 days, perform stretches 4-5 times per 24 hour period.
After 21 days, taper off to 2 lots of stretches per 24 hour period until a month has passed. Continue the stretches at the same frequency even if the white/grey/yellow/brown healing area has completely healed as there will be ongoing healing activity beneath the skin.
Stretches and spots
- For tongue: Do the finger roll over the wound as shown at your appointment. Perform the exercises exactly as prescribed during your appointments. Tongue suction hold stretches, Tongue clicks, Tip ups, and trying to touch the nose with the tongue are examples of what you may have been prescribed. Use spots behind the upper front teeth, 3 times a day exactly as shown at your appointment.
- For Lips: pull lip out and in, extending it to its maximum for 3-5 seconds. Run your finger across the fold of the upper lip and move it along the area – left to right / right to left. Occasionally you may use a drop of Coconut oil or Vitamin E oil on your finger as a lubricant to provide a healing aid.
Note: Some bleeding is not unusual and can happen as a result of thorough stretching.
Manual therapy - Speech therapy, Physiotherapy (Later If advised)
Continuing with any recommended manual therapy will assist to optimize the freedom gained from surgery. It is important that you visit a provider with knowledge and experience with this treatment, as well as awareness of implications of lip/tongue tie.
